Also known as the Golden City, this beautiful sandstone lies in the centre of the Thar Desert. Its bejewelled attraction is the Jaisalmer Fort which is made of sandstone and is exposed to the scorching sun rays creating an illusion of a golden fort. Even with extreme temperatures, the place is always filled with crowds. The stay there is incredible with the views it offers staying at luxurious and affordable camps with local food and Rajasthani folk dance. This city has a lot of ancient history blended perfectly with the present situation.Â
At Jaisalmer, most of the desert camps are two sand dunes, i.e., Sam and Khuri. Sam is the most popular one having camps for everyone within their budget range. Khuri camps are generally preferred for someone who is looking for a much quieter experience. It is almost 30 km away from Sam’s camp.Â
Rajputana Desert Camp
These camps are the most popular in Jaisalmer with their 40 Swiss tents, 10 AC cottages, a restaurant camp and the most eventful musical night towards the end of the day. It is almost 45 kms from the main city and the area is so perfectly selected that it is a little far away from the crowd. It is also reasonable for the services they provide , i.e. INR 3000 per night. You can book a cab to reach the destination after your sightseeing. Some activities to do around here are Camel Safari, Jeep Safari and view the sunset point. It is totally undescribable and you’ll keep gazing at it for the longest to take it all in. It is open from 1st August to 31st March.
- The Serai Camp –Â
This one in Jaisalmer will blow your mind out with its luxurious stay and the unimaginable services it provides. Set away in a calm and pleasant area so that its customers get the most out of it, this place is a whopping 100-acre estate. It has 21 lavish tents out of which 14 are tented suites and 7 luxury suites including a jacuzzi set and private gardens. Serai Camp is the most expensive camp but it provides an experience like nothing before. Heftily priced at INRÂ 22,000 per night it never fails to mesmerize you with its tranquility and services. Other services include an outdoor pool, spa, and luxurious dining.Â
- Chetram Desert Camp –Â
A recently started campsite that opened up and is a total value for money in the Sam Sand Dunes. With over 30 camps, 8 AC cottages and many more upcoming renovations and development coming through. This place is the perfect fit for someone who’s looking for a budget-friendly but amazing experience. They charge around INR 1250 per night which includes all your three meals that show Rajasthani heritage, camel safari and various evening cultural programs to entertain you. The camel safari and desert safaris are all walkable distances from the place and towards the evening, go visit the famous Sunset Point.Â
- Dangri Desert Safari Camp –Â
Rated as an absolute value-for-money camp, it offers certain services that no other camp provides. It is a newly opened safari camp with around 45 well maintained tents with pleasant interiors. The price ranges from INR 3250 on weekdays and working months and goes till INR 4500 on weekends. You can plan your jeep safari, dine in an open restaurant with some scrumptious food, go stargazing at night and enjoy the cultural programs going on. The best part about it is that it is customizable to your needs, you can request your personal dancing place, especially for couples and even go for a night jeep safari that pumps in adrenaline.Â
- The Mama’s Resort Camp –
Almost 42 km away from Jaisalmer, this place is less crowded and offers a village scene experience. They have a swimming pool, private pool area, evening music and DJ night. The menu is also well-curated and offers both traditional and contemporary Indian food. The tariffs range from INR 6500 to INR 10,000 depending on the package you choose. The Khuri Sand dunes are the major attraction around here and in case you wanna visit the Sam Sand Dunes, it’s only a 30-40 min drive from there.
